LAWYERS DRAGS RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT,LG SERVICE COMMISSION TO COURT OVER SALARY DISPARITY

 

Some aggrieved Lawyers employed in the twenty three Local Government Areas of Rivers State have dragged the State Government, Local Government Civil Commission and State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice before a National Industrial Court sitting in Port Harcourt over disparity in the payment of their salaries.

The aggrieved Local Government Council Lawyers are praying the Court to compel the defendants to pay and put them on the same salary scale as other Lawyers on same grade level who are employed in other government parastatals.

When the matter came up before Justice Polycap Aman, the claimants Counsel, O. C Higher- King prayed the Court to enter judgment in favour of his clients.

He also submitted that the State Attorney-General, Prof. Zaccheus Adangor be disqualified from representing himself and other parties in the suit.

Responding, the Attorney General, raised an objection, praying the Court to dismiss the suit with substantial cost.

He averred that the Claimants in the suit were not employed as legal officers but as law officers.

After listening to their submissions ,Justice Aman adjourned the matter to March 16, 2021 for ruling on the motion.
